This song has been identified as the oldest airman's song, predating the formation of the Royal Flying Corps in 1916. The tune is "The Tarpaulin Jacket," a song from the Crimean War period. Although more verses were written, the simply extend and lengthen the list of pieces of a man that can be made into an airplane to the point where it becomes ridiculous.
